Anger Counseling

Anger is a natural human response to certain life situations, such as when we come under attack, feel deceived, insulted or frustrated. Anger can help to relieve built-up energy and tension, and protect us.

When anger gets out of control, it can be destructive and significantly impact quality of life. It can affect your career, your relationships and overall well-being.

People who fail to handle their anger properly may put others down and can be overly critical.

What makes people angry?

Some of the factors that make people angry are:

  • pain
  • hunger
  • grief and loss
  • rudeness
  • verbal or physical assault
  • sexual frustration
  • suffering a blow to self-esteem
  • being interrupted
  • being mistreated
  • physical and mental illness
  • alcohol
  • bullying
  • hormonal imbalances
  • disappointment
  • withdrawals from certain medications and drugs

When is anger a problem?

Anger becomes a problem when it starts impacting you and those around you. Uncontrolled anger can have devastating consequences. Anger can escalate and lead to other types of behavior such as abuse and being passive/aggressive. If you feel unable to control your anger, consider professional help.
